Basic principle of flange electromagnetic flowmeter

Electromagnetic flowmeter is a flow measurement instrument made using Faraday’s electromagnetic induction principle.

The principle is that when a conductive liquid moves perpendicular to the magnetic field lines in an alternating magnetic field along the measuring pipeline, the conductive liquid cuts the magnetic field lines and generates an induced potential (voltage); At this point, a pair of electrodes were installed on the tube wall perpendicular to the axis of the measuring tube and the magnetic field lines, which detected the induced potential (voltage) generated. This induced potential (voltage) is directly proportional to the flow rate of the liquid flowing through the measuring pipeline. By measuring this potential (voltage), the flow rate of the liquid passing through the measuring pipeline can be deduced.

From the above basic measurement principles, we can see that electromagnetic flowmeters can only be used for measuring conductive liquids, and non-conductive media cannot be measured, such as gases, oils, ketones, benzene, etc.

The flange type electromagnetic flowmeter is a flowmeter used for flow testing based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. The advantages of electromagnetic flowmeter are minimal pressure loss and a wide range of measurable flow rates. The ratio of larger flow rate to smaller flow rate is generally above 20:1, suitable for a wide range of industrial pipe diameters up to 3m. The output signal is linear with the measured flow rate, and can measure the flow rate of acid, alkali salt solutions, water, sewage, corrosive liquids, as well as fluids such as mud, slurry, and pulp with conductivity ≥ 20 μ s/cm.
