Principle of Roots flowmeter

The intelligent gas waist wheel flowmeter is mainly composed of components such as a housing, a conjugate rotor, and an intelligent flow integrator. A pair of conjugate rotors installed in the measuring room maintain the correct relative position of the rotors through precision machined tuning gears under the pressure difference (P in>P out) of the flowing gas inlet and outlet. The optimal working clearance is maintained between rotors, rotors and shells, and rotors and wall panels, achieving continuous non-contact sealing. Every time the rotor rotates, it outputs four times the effective volume of the measuring chamber’s gas.

Roots flowmeter, also known as gas waist wheel flowmeter, is a high-precision measuring instrument mainly used for continuous or intermittent measurement of gas or liquid flow in pipelines. It has the characteristics of high precision, good reliability, light weight, long service life, low operating noise, and easy installation and use. The Roots flowmeter can indicate accumulated flow, instantaneous flow, single flow, etc. on site, and can also output pulse signals, 4-20mA or 1-5V analog signals, 485 communication, 4-20mA+HART, MODBUS protocol, etc. The Roots flowmeter consists of a measuring chamber, measuring rotor, measuring component assembly (i.e. internal measuring element), and counting indicator assembly. There is a measuring chamber inside the casing of the Roots flowmeter, which contains one or two pairs of waist wheels (actually modulus 2 gears) that can rotate tangentially. A pair of driving gears are installed coaxially with the two waist wheels outside the flowmeter casing, and they mesh with each other to enable the two waist wheels to interlock with each other.

Before installation and use, the user should read this description in detail to ensure the normal installation and reasonable use of the flow meter, so as not to affect the normal operation and measurement accuracy.
1, the installation of the flow meter should be removed the import and export packaging, must prevent granular impurities fall into the measuring room, such as the measuring room table coated with anti-rust oil, can be washed with gasoline or kerosene, and strictly Jingchu pipeline magazine, the flow meter should be installed filters and filters, to prevent rust slag, welding slag and other impurities into the measuring room.
2, when the flow meter is installed, the logistics inlet and outlet are vertical or horizontal positions, and the rotor axis should be kept as horizontal as possible.
3, when the gas pressure fluctuation range is large, in order to ensure the measurement accuracy, the upstream of the flow meter should be installed voltage regulator.
4, in order to prevent the newly installed pipe rust slag, welding slag and other impurities into the flow meter, the user should first install the excessive pipe on the installation position of the flow meter, ventilation for a period of time, to ensure that there is no large particle magazine, after the flow meter. If the pipe is welded, the transition pipe should be used, and the flow meter should not be welded directly.
5, the installation of the flow meter has two forms, import and export vertical installation and import and export horizontal installation. It is strongly recommended to install the flow meter vertically, when the gas flow is upward and downward, so that the rotor has a self-cleaning ability for impurities in the pipeline to reduce maintenance, improve service life and ensure measurement accuracy. In special cases, horizontal installation (also known as left in right out) can be taken, and the installation flow timing should be set up before and after the door valve and by-pass pipeline to ensure that maintenance, no need to stop gas.
6, the flow meter installation pipe distribution pipe and pipe fittings size must be appropriate, installation flow timing, should ensure that the center of the flow meter and the center of the pipeline alignment, no dislocation, and the flow meter body to bear abnormal external forces (including axial and radial).

  1. After installation, unscrew the plug on the back cover and turn the rotor with an Allen wrench to check whether the rotor rotates freely. If the rotor rotation is stuck, the instrument should be removed to remove the stolen goods. Then reinstall, after the rotor freely rotate, screw on the plug.
  2. After the correct installation of the flow meter, inject special lubricating oil from the oil filling button to the middle line of the oil window (note that no more), and check regularly or irregularly during use to ensure the adequate cleanliness of the lubricating oil. If the lubricating oil is found to be black or the oil level is higher than the middle line of the oil window, it indicates that the lubricating oil has deteriorated or has impurities, and the new lubricating oil should be replaced at this time. If the oil level is 3MM lower than the middle line of the oil window, it indicates that the lubricating oil is lost and needs to be added to the middle line of the oil window. When filling lubricating oil, the valve before and after the flowmeter must be closed, and the gas in the flowmeter must be drained before filling lubricating oil.
    9, when the flow meter is put into operation, first open the bypass valve and the flow meter outlet valve, slowly open the inlet valve, the flow meter runs for a few minutes at a small flow rate, and listen to whether there is an abnormal sound, after the flow meter starts normally, gradually close the bypass valve, adjust the outlet valve to a certain opening, is the flow meter in a certain flow under normal operation. Note: The opening and closing operation of the door valve must be slow to prevent the strong impact of the air flow and damage the flowmeter.
  3. After the flow meter is put into operation for a period of time, if the filter pressure drop is found to increase, the filter should be cleaned or the filter medium replaced; If it is found that the pressure drop of the flowmeter increases and the initial flow rate increases, the measuring chamber can be washed with clean gasoline or gas.
